Burdinola takes another step forward in its climate commitment with targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)

Burdinola has committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by 2050, reinforcing our purpose of creating safer, more efficient and environmentally responsible laboratory environments.

Burdinola has achieved validation of its greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), confirming its strong climate ambition through science-based targets. The Science Based Targets initiative is a joint initiative by CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and WWF.

The main purpose of this initiative is to provide a rigorous methodological framework that enables organisations to establish emissions reduction plans in line with the Paris Agreement and the latest climate science. This ensures that the decarbonisation strategies adopted are appropriate for limiting global warming to 1.5°C, or keeping it well below 2°C compared with pre-industrial levels.

Net-zero emissions by 2050

As a cooperative with strong ties to the scientific community, at Burdinola we know that science shows us the way forward. That is why we have committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across our entire value chain by 2050, integrating sustainability from the ecodesign of our fume cupboards and laboratory furniture through to the comprehensive execution of our laboratory projects.

In the short term, we have set a target to reduce our absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42.0% by 2030, using 2023 as the base year. We are also committed to measuring and reducing our absolute Scope 3 emissions over the same period.

In the long term, we aim to reduce our absolute Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 90.0% by 2050, also compared with the 2023 base year.

Having our targets officially validated by the SBTi and seeing our 1.5°C-aligned targets published on its website represents a key milestone and confirms that our progress towards decarbonisation is built on solid foundations.
